You may not aware that there area condo or house now start using cement floor as their flooring now after 15-20 years tiling floor trend.
We have received request from designer or some of the contractor regarding a polished cement floor for the client house. If you are keen to go for cement flooring, there are something that you need to know:-
- Cement flooring come in different tone color. Although it call cement floor, is grey color, but rendering cement floor will show darker and lighter grey, is random, not one solid color. If you looks for solid color, then please go for tiles. ( even tile different batch also have color different).
- Slight uneven on the floor, it may be 2-3 mm different here and there. Please take your ruler and check it out, 2-3 mm looks not obvious, but after polishing, it can been seen. But this uneveness cannot be avoid.
- Crack line on the floor, you might find it everywhere. Hairline crack. As long as it is not a big crack, it is still under acceptable range. Please do not expect no crack on your cement floor as it is not possible.

The important part when doing the cement render flooring for house. Please use a lot of cement and water when you do the work.
Cement render = cement + water + sand
Some Indonesia worker can prepare a very flat cement flooring, but the flooring will start hollow after 3 month. It is because the water and cement consume is less. If any heavy stuff fall on the floor, then the surface cement screed will be crack, and you might find a lot of sand underneath that you are able to sweep them out. The cement render floor didn’t bind together.
Cement finishing floor should plan ahead when you have the whole house design, before the renovation start. Then you can plan for a concrete flooring for your floor with PRC netting and power float, if the area large enough. Concrete flooring basically is less crack line compare to cement render floor. Lay the concrete floor to your ideal height and do 1 time work only will be good.
There are 1 time a developer contacted us for a polished concrete flooring . The contractor or the builder not really understand what is polished concrete floor.
And they just leave it until the building almost done. The moment we went for site visit, we found that the concrete slab they lay actually is not purposely for polished concrete finishing.
They just lay concrete on the floor, without vibration and clean up, in the concrete has mix a lot of rubbish and waste, the slab not level and some steel bar just come out from the floor.
With the not right concrete base, we suggested to add a layer of the cement render on top. However it cannot happen due to the level of the floor is fix, all door has been fix and also the staircase height not allow to add on. So, it is very important to plan your floor before everything done.
Honest speaking, cement render flooring is easy to be done by any wet work contractor. However cement render floor for polished cement finish, it is different.
Kindly consult your wet work contractor before decided to do the floor. If your house already come with cement floor from developer, then is ok to just polish it.
